Mardi Gras literally means Fat Tuesday. Living on Bourbon Street for 10 years means that it also has lots of other meanings for me. Tuesdays are the forgotten early weekday to work in every other city in the world, except New Orleans and parts of Louisiana. Tuesdays are special because once a year we get to celebrate the day with gluttony on all levels, a great time of partying and revelry. For me Tuesdays are a day to be thankful and grateful for all we have.
On August 29, 2005, New Orleans would forever be changed by a storm called Katrina. At the time, I owned a house in the Marigny and a glass blowing studio in the Bywater of New Orleans. Mass destruction occurred in the city I loved, with 75% of it underwater or with such heavy damage that you could not recognize the place.
Unfortunately, it is this kind of natural disaster that truly brings the people together, and you get to see the real love or fear in people. During the first part of the recovery I was working in Hammond, a small town 50 minutes away from New Orleans. I wasn’t in the city building it back up, but I wanted to help. I remembered an article I had read that was a study done in the Middle East where they took the square root number of One Percent (1%) of the population and had the number of people meditate or pray for peace at the same time. The study showed that during the time this number of people praying or meditating that no one got arrested, no one went to the emergency room, basically all crime stopped in the city for this time. I thought we needed to put this into action, and with such a small population in New Orleans, it wouldn’t take very many people to do this. http://www.worldpeacealliance.com/index_htm_files/greggbraden.html
According to the news, only 270,000 residents were back in New Orleans in January 2006, and 1% of that was 2,704, and the square root of that is 52. I knew 52 people that I could talk into praying together! This is how Two Minute Tuesday began, I texted and called people from everywhere to help pray for the city of New Orleans recovery every Tuesday. It would be some time before I would start promoting it on social media, but the idea of people praying for one cause, their community stuck with me.
Here is other research explaining this same concept with Transcendental meditation, if you would like to read about more-

Now I ask everyone to pray or meditate for Two Minutes on Tuesday for their community and world peace. It totally made a difference in New Orleans, for three years I constantly reminded people to pray or meditate on the city to help its recovery. We all watched with love and amazement to see our great city rise again. In three years, New Orleans was back on the map as a tourist destination, and Super Bowl Champions. The Power of Prayer is unstoppable!
Today I ask that you join me and others to send out love, energy, prayers for two full minutes every Tuesday to your community and the world. We all have time to do this- whether you are waiting in line to check out, sitting on the toilet in the morning, driving a commute to work just take the time to send love and visualize your community in the most peaceful beautiful light you can.
